Job Overview
Citizens Medical Center is a not‑for‑profit hospital offering advanced medical services to the South Texas region. The role involves assessing and planning continuing education needs for operating room staff, evaluating personnel for completion of orientation, and supporting peri‑operative patient care.
Responsibilities- Assess and plan continuing education needs and requirements of operating room staff.
- Evaluate personnel competencies and complete orientation components.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and evaluating peri‑operative patient care.
- Apply age‑specific needs in assessment, treatment, and/or care of patients.
- Prepare departmental documents and reports.
- Evaluate and revise departmental orientation, onboarding, and annual competency programs.
- Develop and revise continuing education programs.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement, safety management, and infection control programs.
- Assist in developing and interpreting policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise as a peri‑operative nurse and act as a clinical practitioner.
- Support day‑to‑day operating room functions, including asepsis, infection control, patient record keeping, and ancillary services.
- Serve as a resource and role model for operating room personnel and hospital staff in patient care planning and evaluation.
- Demonstrate effective leadership within the department.
- Supervise other personnel using professional nursing and management skills.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- At least two (2) years of previous operating room experience.
- Some supervisory or management experience; experience in quality management (preferred).
- Ability to establish priorities and make independent decisions of a complex nature.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office.
Currently registered with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners and Basic Life Support Certification.
