Position: Surgical Services Educator (PT)

Surgical Services Educator (PT)

Assesses and plans for the continuing education needs and requirements of the operating room staff. Evaluates personnel for completions of orientation components. Assists with the planning, coordination, and evaluation of peri-operative patient care. Applies age-specific needs in the assessment, treatment, and/or care of patients. Prepares departmental documents and reports as assigned.

Job Specific:

Evaluates and revises the departmental orientation, onboarding, and annual competency programs based upon the needs of the employees and changes within the department, organization, and standards, regulatory requirements, equipment, technology, and clinical practice.

Develops and revises the continuing education program(s) to maintain personnel competency.

Participates in the continuous quality improvement, safety management and infection control programs.

Assists in the development and interpretation of policies and procedures.

Demonstrates clinical expertise in performing the duties of the perioperative nurse and functions as a clinical practitioner.

Proficient in the day-to-day functioning of the operating room including asepsis, infection control, patient record keeping, and ancillary services.

Serves as a resource and role model for other operating room personnel and hospital staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

Demonstrates effective leadership within the department.

Utilizes professional nursing and management skills in supervising other personnel.

Hospital:

Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.

Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.

Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.

Performs within professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Required:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

EXPERIENCE

Required:

At least two (2) years of previous operating room experience

Preferred:
Some supervisory / management experience; quality management experience

SPECIAL

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required:

Establishes priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature. Basic computer skills in Microsoft office.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required:

Currently registered with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners, Basic Life Support Certification
