Position: Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) 6102 Med/Surg - Days (FT)

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with each patient’s nurse to plan the care for assigned patients for the shift.
  • Provides activities of daily living (ADLs), promotes mobility, and assists with nutritional needs per unit routine under the direction of the licensed nurse, following hospital policies and procedures.
  • Promotes skin care, nutrition/hydration, and decubitus prevention.
  • Observes patient progress and changes in status; reports significant changes to the licensed nurse in a timely manner.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges within hospital guidelines and policies.
  • Engages in ongoing development to enhance patient-focused care.
  • Uses authorized equipment to gather and document data on stable, established patients.
  • Accurately records vital signs, weights, and completion of ADLs in the medical record.
  • Reports significant and/or abnormal values to the licensed nurse promptly.
  • Participates in unit performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assists in meeting basic needs for patients in restraints as required.
  • Performs patient care with emphasis on patient rights, confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, and culturally appropriate care.
  • Facilitates maintenance of equipment by submitting maintenance requests as needed.
  • Contributes to service excellence by presenting a positive first impression and supporting team goals.
  • Follows universal precautions and complies with health requirements.
  • Maintains safety and adheres to dress code policies.
  • Knows role in emergency situations and reports unsafe practices to management.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a State of Texas approved nursing assistant course.
  • Current Texas Department of Health certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant, or if recently graduates from an approved Nursing Assistant course, may have up to 90 days to obtain certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
  • Remains within the professional scope of practice at all times.
  • Any other duties as assigned will follow hospital guidelines and policies.
