Overview
Under general supervision, the Streets Maintenance Worker performs manual labor and basic operational tasks related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets, curbs, sidewalks, and drainage systems. The position ensures the City’s roadways and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
Responsibilities- Street and Infrastructure Maintenance:
Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of City streets, curbs, sidewalks, and storm sewer systems. Perform patching, sealing, grading, and concrete work as assigned. Set up traffic control and safety signage to ensure work zone safety. - Equipment and Tool Operation:
Operate and maintain hand tools and pneumatic equipment, including jackhammers, tampers, saws, cement mixers, compressors, and sewer jetting machines. Complete required inspection forms for equipment and maintain records of work performed. - Safety and Compliance:
Perform all duties in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner with City and department safety rules, policies, and procedures. Read, understand, and follow safety manuals, operating instructions, and chemical labels. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. - Communication and Teamwork:
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public. Maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and other departments. Follow directions and work collaboratively in a team environment. - Attendance and Reliability:
Maintain regular attendance and arrive on time for assigned shifts. Be available for emergency call-outs and respond to urgent maintenance needs as required. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind. Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, odors, noise, water, and mud is routine.
- May encounter chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and traffic-related risks.
- Requires standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting or carrying materials up to 100 pounds.
- Work may involve confined spaces and uneven terrain.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. - Licenses:
Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License required. - Knowledge Of:
Work zone safety practices, traffic control, and job site setup; street, sidewalk, and storm sewer maintenance procedures; operation and care of light and heavy construction equipment. - Skill In:
Operating a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively; following written and verbal instructions; maintaining clear and accurate records; establishing effective working relationships.
