Description

The Level 3 Diesel Technician is a skilled technician capable of handling a wide range of mechanical repairs and performing basic to intermediate diagnostics. This role is trusted to complete most standard repairs with limited supervision and continues to build diagnostic capability.

Senior-level position – Generally has more than four years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. A level three technician has a broad knowledge of the field’s standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is self-starting and requires minimal supervision.

Essential Functions
  • Model, promote, reinforce, and reward the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex engine malfunctions and failures with minimal supervision
  • Perform detailed engine and related equipment repairs on trucks and trailers with minimal supervision
  • Disassemble, inspect, determine parts required, and reassemble to factory specifications within TRGs
  • Provide quality control and assurance inspections of completed tasks, including road testing
  • Use computers and related software to assist in diagnosing and reprogramming engines
  • Complete documentation for service reports, timecards, parts requisition and returns
  • Interpret and utilize information from operating, maintenance, online resources, and service manuals/bulletins
  • Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in clean, working order
  • Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs
  • Project professionalism with internal and external customers, including personal appearance
  • Act as a mentor and coach to lower level technicians
  • Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training
  • Consistently maintain an average rework of less than 0.5%
  • Ensure a positive average variance consistently
  • Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies; comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Require regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Complete all Level 3 curriculum pathway requirements as outlined in the Leveling Description Guide
  • Meet all technical and performance requirements for a Level 1 & 2 Technician
  • Extensive knowledge of equipment and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and electronic systems diagnostic tooling
  • Operation and control skills of vehicle fleet
  • Problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Follow logical troubleshooting procedures

  • Operate a conventional forklift

  • Operate a vehicle on public roads
  • Make precisely coordinated movements of fingers to manipulate small objects
  • Read, write, and understand information
  • Listen to and understand information presented orally
  • Complete HOLT's VBL classes, model VBL culture, and apply the tools
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program
  • Minimum of four years of experience
  • Completion of Levels 1 & 2 curriculum pathway requirements as outlined in the Leveling Description Guide
  • Has met Pro Tech training requirements for preceding Technician levels; ability to learn and model HOLT’s VBL culture
  • Ongoing safety training
Preferred
  • CDL – Class A or B
  • ASE – Medium/Heavy Truck Certification
  • AC Certification
