Under general supervision, the Bilingual Teacher provides educational instruction and support to unaccompanied children (UC) in an Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) program. This position delivers trauma‑informed, culturally responsive educational services that support academic growth, social‑emotional development, and the overall well‑being of youth in care. Bilingual Spanish is required.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver daily lessons in core academic subjects, adapting instruction to meet the needs of youth with varying abilities and language backgrounds.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Implement trauma‑informed teaching strategies and positive behavior supports.
  • Encourage student engagement, participation, and the development of critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Work collaboratively with Lead Teacher, case managers, and clinical staff to support student learning and social‑emotional growth.
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and interdisciplinary case reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding student progress and educational needs.
  • Support transition planning for youth, including reunification with family or movement to other programs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress through formal and informal assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, academic performance, and behavioral observations.
  • Contribute to individualized education plans or learning support strategies for students needing additional assistance.
  • Prepare reports for program leadership and ORR as required.
  • Participate in required ORR and agency trainings, including trauma‑informed care and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Stay current on educational best practices and regulations related to youth in ORR care.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Participate in and provide support groups and classes to the community and clients of the agency (based on position).
  • Maintain a welcoming environment for families and other community partners.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and PII privacy and security requirements.
  • As with all of our positions, we work as a team and various duties may be assigned at any time, including tasks to support other AGH programs/services, cleaning, organizing, child care, attending to the child in your care or in the office, attendance at meetings, transportation, paperwork, etc.

Hiring Rate of Pay

$31.25 per hour

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
  • Teaching certification from the relevant governing authority.
  • TESOL/TEFL or equivalent certification and additional training to meet the educational needs of unaccompanied alien children (UAC).
  • 1–2 years of teaching experience, preferably with children in residential or trauma‑informed settings.
  • Bilingual Spanish required.
  • Understanding of child development, instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Be able to obtain Criminal and Child Abuse Clearance from the State of California/Department of Justice.
  • Must be available full‑time and able to adjust work day/work week to provide services when clients and families need them, which can routinely include evenings and occasionally weekends, in order to ensure coordination and continuity of services. OR. Must be available to work nights, weekends and some holidays as needed dependent on position.
  • Demonstrate the Understanding of the importance of compliance with HIPAA privacy practices.
