Stretched out over more than 20,000 square miles of California’s vast desert expanse, the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District is geographically the second largest of the state’s 35 air districts. As the air pollution control agency for San Bernardino County’s High Desert and Riverside County’s Palo Verde Valley, the District has primary responsibility for regulating stationary sources of air pollution located within its jurisdictional boundaries.
T he District implements air quality programs required by state and federal mandates, enforces rules and regulations based on air pollution laws and educates businesses and residents about their role in protecting air quality and the risks of air pollution.
This is a full-time on-site role for a Public Information Officer I, located in Victorville. Under the supervision of the Executive Director or Deputy Air Pollution Control Officer, this position develops, implements and maintains the District’s public education, community outreach and communication programs; serves as District spokesperson and liaison to members of the public, elected officials, community groups, local and county government agencies and news media to disseminate information about the District’s mission and activities, air quality hazards, programs and events;
and performs related duties as required.
The Public Information Officer I position requires at least five years of experience in the fields of public relations, or communications, or a combination of college coursework with professional certifications; and increasingly responsible experience in relevant and/or related fields.
