Job Description

Title: Occupational Therapist

It is our goal to provide the finest Orthopaedic care possible. This philosophy requires that all office staff and providers be sensitive and responsive to patients’ needs and preferences. The position requires availability of approximately forty hours per week and flexibility in schedule to provide efficient service for the group, with the expectation to work no more than five days per week.

The hours, pay scale, and benefits will be defined as shall be agreed to.

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Director of Physical Therapy, the Occupational Therapist shall provide all responsibilities necessary for the successful operation of the Physical Therapy Department for Arrowhead Orthopaedics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work is primarily performed in the Physical Therapy Department located within Arrowhead Orthopaedics offices. Handle confidential patient files with high standards of privacy, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Identify patient care issues; provide information and commentary; recommend options and courses of action; implement physical therapy directives.
  • Assess patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying therapy histories.
  • Assess abnormal conditions by reviewing physical therapist’s interpretations of patient evaluations and test results.
  • Document patient care services in the electronic medical record system.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, including non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily living activities, and use of supportive devices (e.g., crutches, canes, prostheses).
  • Instruct and counsel patients by describing therapeutic regimens; providing wellness and health maintenance information.
  • Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend to the therapy needs of patients as scheduled.
  • Perform 2-3 procedures and 1-2 modalities per patient when called for, as feasible. Higher patient load may occur with lower performance levels.
  • Complete all PT/OT evaluations and daily notes within 2 working days.
  • Complete EEFs, DASH, and co-signs within 2 working days.
  • Complete Discharge (DC) list monthly.
  • Maintain full compliance with CMS-Medicare regulations and other third-party payer regulations.
  • Maintain complete documentation of services rendered and communicate with billing staff to ensure proper and timely billing.

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Direct reporting to the Director of Physical Therapy; communicate progress, reports, requests, concerns, and expectations as directed.
  • Interact with other office and clinical staff in a collegial, professional manner to support safety and quality care.
  • Interact with Doctors, licensed physical therapists, students, physical therapy aides, and patients with a commitment to quality care and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

Skill Requirements:

  • PT/OT license and CPR certification required.
  • Competence in operating computers and software programs, preferably Outlook and an Electronic Medical Record system.
  • Professional communication and proper phone etiquette.
  • Upper extremity experience.
  • CHT experience (not required).

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Sitting and walking with daily stooping, reaching, and bending.
  • Lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Hearing within normal range for telephone and personal communication.
  • Manual dexterity to operate keyboards and office equipment.
