Job Title: Rehab Aide (Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy)

Department: Rehab Therapy

Reports To: Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapist/Rehab Manager

Location: High Desert PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly)

The Rehab Aide provides essential support to Physical Therapists (PTs) and Occupational Therapists (OTs) in delivering high-quality rehabilitation services to participants in the High Desert PACE program. This role assists in preparing treatment areas, transporting participants, implementing therapeutic exercises and activities under the direct supervision of licensed therapists, and maintaining accurate records. The Rehab Aide plays a vital role in creating a positive and supportive environment that promotes participant independence and well-being.

Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Treatment Preparation and Support:
    • Prepare treatment areas by setting up equipment, ensuring cleanliness, and maintaining a safe environment.
    • Assist therapists in positioning and transferring participants, using proper body mechanics and safety precautions.
    • Gather and organize necessary supplies and equipment for therapy sessions.
    • Assist with the application of modalities, such as heat, cold, and electrical stimulation, as directed by the therapist.
  • Participant Assistance:
    • Transport participants to and from therapy sessions and other program activities.
    • Assist participants with therapeutic exercises and activities, following the specific instructions of the PT or OT.
    • Observe and report participant progress and any changes in condition to the supervising therapist.
    • Provide encouragement and motivation to participants during therapy sessions.
    • Assist with ADL (Activities of Daily Living) training under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
  • Administrative and Clerical Duties:
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of participant attendance and therapy activities.
    • Assist with scheduling appointments and managing therapy schedules.
    • Clean and maintain therapy equipment and supplies.
    • Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies as needed.
    • Assist with filing, and other clerical duties.
  • Team

    Collaboration:

    • Communicate effectively with therapists, other staff members, and participants.
    • Participate in team meetings and in-service training sessions.
    • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
    • Adhere to all PACE policies and procedures.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification in a related healthcare field (e.g., Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA)) preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift and transfer participants.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and rehabilitation principles preferred.
  • Compassion and empathy for older adults.
  • Ability to use basic computer software.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics and transfer techniques.
Desired Experience
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with the elderly population in a healthcare or related setting.
  • Familiarity with the unique needs and challenges of geriatric patients.
  • Experience in providing compassionate and patient-centered care to older adults.
