This position will play a key role in maintaining and controlling the general ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. We are seeking a Permanent Staff Accountant and Payroll Assistant to join our dynamic team in the architecture firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll processes, and financial reporting. This role will involve maintaining the general ledger, reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, processing payroll, and ensuring accurate and timely month-end closings.
Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain the general ledger and reconcile accounts on a monthly basis.
- Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring all business transactions are recorded.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly/yearly closings and financial statements.
- Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Prepare and remit payroll tax payments.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and assist with year-end reporting.
- Utilize Deltek software for various accounting and payroll tasks.
- Assist with the preparation of other financial reports as required.
- Review and file payroll documents.
- Assist with other accounting projects as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll and accounting, preferably in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in Deltek software is a must.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Experience with payroll tax payments and year-end reporting.
- Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
