Organizational LocationThese positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, Vienna, Virginia.
Duties- Employee supports the Adjudication Process by adjudicating cases, conducting security checks, interviewing references provided in supporting documentation, ensuring program quality assurance, conducting training, serving as liaison, and communicating decision;
- Performs outreach duties in schools and conferences;
- Provides oversight, liaison, and evaluation activities for non-immigration services elements and, as necessary, formulates new or revised Agency-wide procedures relating to immigration services operations;
- Performs analytical and evaluative work associated with Agency program activities;
- Performs work involving the analysis of the Agency-wide impact, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of existing or proposed standards, regulations, programs, and policies;
- Develops adjudication impact models, and/or analyzes new or amended legislation;
- Validates official documents recorded in state or local government offices.
- You must be a U.S. citizen.
- You must successfully pass a background investigation.
- You must successfully pass a drug screen.
- Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration with Selective Service.
- Requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
- Probationary period:
Full-time permanent position; may require a one-year probationary period.
GS-11
:
Experience – one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level or equivalent performing duties such as ensuring records and property security, writing logical legal decisions and opinions, and granting or denying applications based on evidence.
Education – successful completion of a Ph.D., LL.M., or three full years of advanced graduate education can substitute for the experience required at GS-11.
GS-12
:
One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent performing duties such as ensuring records and property security, writing logical legal decisions and opinions, granting or denying applications, and communicating final adjudicative decisions.
GS-13
:
One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent performing duties such as functioning as a subject matter expert in complex adjudication cases, communicating final adjudicative decisions, granting or denying petitions for non-immigration benefits, and independently conducting legal research and preparing briefs, position papers, legal decisions and opinions.
