ITCON is seeking a Geospatial Services Senior Technical Lead to serve as the primary technical expert for geospatial services supporting a federal customer, ensuring that all systems and enhancements consistently align with agency architecture, standards, and governance practices. This role also supports the ongoing improvement of an enterprise Geospatial Data Asset Catalog (GDAC), a critical system for tracking Geospatial Data Act (GDA) compliance.

This position is ideal for someone with strong GIS engineering expertise, experience working with enterprise geospatial platforms, and a solutions-oriented approach to coordinating with federal geospatial governance bodies.

You will work closely with federal mission-area stakeholders to coordinate reporting, analyze enterprise geospatial activities, and support governance processes that advance geospatial maturity and compliance obligations.

Key Responsibilities Geospatial Architecture & Standards Alignment
  • Coordinate closely with the stakeholders to ensure all geospatial solutions adhere to official agency standards, architectures, data models, metadata requirements, and best practices for interoperability.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between geospatial delivery teams and government customers, ensuring the use of approved geospatial services (e.g., agency-managed geospatial web services).
  • Review, advise, and validate technical designs for GIS integrations to ensure alignment with agency strategic and technical priorities.
Geospatial Data Solutions & GDAC Support
  • Provide technical leadership for development and enhancement of the Geospatial Data Asset Catalog (GDAC), designed to centralize geospatial assets and track GDA compliance.
  • Support GDAC refinement and enhancement activities, including metadata synchronization, schema updates, and data quality improvements.
  • Guide teams on ensuring data assets meet requirements for discoverability, completeness, lineage documentation, and compliance.
Geospatial Services Development & Integration
  • Ensure existing geospatial services are appropriately integrated into applications and workflows.
  • When new geospatial services are required, partner with the agency stakeholders under their technical direction and governance.
  • Validate geospatial integrations for performance, spatial accuracy, CRS consistency, and map caching strategies.
Operations, Maintenance, and Modernization Support
  • Provide Tier 3 geospatial technical expertise for troubleshooting, issue resolution, and system-level geospatial dependencies.
  • Assist in improving geospatial components as part of broader modernization efforts, including reducing technical debt in GIS-related integrations.
  • Support the evaluation of existing geospatial data flows, recommending improvements to reduce redundancy and enhance sustainability.
Documentation, Governance & Reporting
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on geospatial dependencies, data lineage, geospatial interfaces, and system requirements in government-designated repositories.
  • Provide technical input to governance reviews, architecture boards, and release readiness processes.
  • Collaborate with Business Owners, Product Owners, and architects to ensure geospatial needs are fully represented in modernization roadmaps.
Required Skills And Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience managing or engineering geospatial data solutions, geospatial applications, or GIS platforms in enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Enterprise GIS platforms (e.g., Esri Enterprise/ArcGIS Server/ArcGIS Online)
    • Geospatial data processing, transformation, and metadata standards
