Position OverviewAmatriot is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to support the National Programs Intelligence Systems & Application Operating Unit. The SITE III ITS Task Order effort is charged with the orchestration, sustainment, and evolution of a portfolio of mission applications and services for the Defense Intelligence Agency.
The primary work location is Riverdale, MD. Support from other customer locations in the National Capital Region is possible, but the candidate would most likely report to the Riverdale, MD location until alternate work locations can be arranged.
The candidate requires previous experience with Linux system administration for applications in a classified environment. System administration tasking will include installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers, virtual servers, and application software upgrades. Some minor Windows system administration may be needed, but it will not be the primary function.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for Operations and Maintenance tasks, maintaining operational baselines, and supporting application O&M activities including patching, application monitoring, and customer support. When necessary, the candidate will troubleshoot network and application performance issues and recommend appropriate action. The candidate will work closely with project team members, product subject matter experts, end users, and software engineers to ensure applications remain operational by monitoring application performance, providing technical assistance, and consulting with users.
Additional duties include supporting database administrators, developing tools to assist in systems management, ensuring application documentation is maintained, and performing daily application backups.
Key Responsibilities Server Administration and Management- Oversee and manage both virtual and physical servers for enterprise, regional, and local systems.
- Install, configure, document, maintain, and support server environments hosting mission-critical applications and infrastructure services.
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers, virtual servers, and application software upgrades.
- Provide minor Windows system administration support as needed.
- Install and configure operating systems, database software, including Oracle, and application software across both physical and virtual servers.
- Ensure system software is properly integrated and supports enterprise applications.
- Support application software upgrades.
- Develop tools to assist in the management of systems.
- Perform Operations and Maintenance tasks.
- Maintain operational baselines.
- Support application O&M activities, including patching, application monitoring, and customer support.
- Perform daily application backups.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, including CPU, memory, disk usage, and response times.
- Implement proactive measures to address potential performance bottlenecks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues related to resource usage.
- Troubleshoot network and application performance issues and recommend appropriate action.
- Ensure systems and databases meet security standards and comply with relevant regulations.
- Implement and enforce security policies.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments.
- Manage security updates and patches for operating systems and database environments.
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving system and database issues.
- Respond to service outages.
- Coordinate recovery efforts.
- Ensure timely resolution of problems.
- Assist in root cause analysis.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent future issues.
- Plan and execute system downtime for scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and new releases.
- Install and test patches and updates for operating systems and database applications, including Oracle.
- Oversee and validate regular system and database backups.
- Support disaster recovery plans by testing restoration procedures.
- Work with cross-functional teams and external partners to install and configure server systems.
- Support system integrations with other applications.
- Consult with clients for complex technical problems.
