Notes- Seeking a Data Analyst to support a large data governance backlog remediation initiative.
- SQL is a must-have - needs to be able to pull tables and identify associated data elements/columns for review and documentation.
- Strong organization, project management, and reporting skills to manage the inventory, track progress, and provide regular stakeholder updates.
- Must understand data governance practices and have experience creating governance artifacts such as:
- Data dictionaries
- Source-to-target mappings (
STTMs
) - Critical Data Elements (
CDEs
)
- Strong teamwork and stakeholder collaboration skills are important - this project cannot be completed in a silo and will require coordination with peers, SMEs, and business partners.
- Nice to have: Power BI experience, executive-level presentation skills, and experience translating data trends into meaningful business insights

A financial services organization is seeking a Data Analyst in Vienna, VA to support a large data governance backlog remediation initiative. This role focuses on SQL-driven analysis, governance documentation, and cross-functional coordination to help make enterprise data more usable, trusted, and well-documented.
About the Opportunity- Schedule: Monday through Friday (hybrid, 3 days per week onsite)
- Setting: Hybrid
- Lead remediation work for a large data governance backlog, including prioritization, status tracking, risk identification, and follow-through on deliverables.
- Use SQL to analyze tables, validate field logic, and identify data elements and columns for review and documentation.
- Create and maintain governance artifacts such as data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, critical data element documentation, metadata, and lineage context.
- Partner with governance teams, analysts, subject matter experts, and business stakeholders to clarify data definitions and align on deliverables.
- Prepare progress updates, reporting, and documentation that clearly communicate blockers, dependencies, and next steps.
- Advanced SQL skills, including querying large datasets, assessing table structures, and investigating data quality issues.
- Experience creating or maintaining data governance artifacts such as data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, critical data element documentation, metadata, or lineage documentation.
- Experience managing complex work streams with multiple stakeholders, dependencies, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Working knowledge of data governance practices, including metadata management, data stewardship, data ownership, and data quality.
- Working knowledge of data warehousing, database structures, and ETL or ELT processes.
- Strong stakeholder communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings and documentation needs to technical and business audiences.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Power BI experience, including developing dashboards to communicate remediation progress and data readiness.
- Experience applying data storytelling principles to translate data trends into leadership-ready insights.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar data catalog and metadata management platforms.
- Experience supporting enterprise-wide or cross-business-unit data governance or analytics initiatives.
- Familiarity with semantic models, curated datasets, certified data products, or self-service BI enablement.
- PMP, Agile certification, or comparable experience managing cross-functional projects or enterprise work streams.
- Advanced degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
