CDL HOLDER BONUS INCENTIVE
  • Starting Pay $55,000 for CDL Holders
  • $2,000 Hiring Bonus for valid CDL Holders.
    $1,000 after first 90 days and $1,000 upon completion of 1 year probation.

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform semi-skilled and manual maintenance duties required to preserve and maintain the Town's water distribution system infrastructure. Responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, meters, and related appurtenances to ensure reliable delivery of potable water to the community.

Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Work environment includes exposure to noise, dust, traffic, pressurized water systems, excavation hazards, and underground utilities, with extended periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, lifting heavy objects, and operating equipment.

This position is considered essential personnel and requires participation in emergency response activities, including significant overtime, after-hours callouts, weekend work and extended shifts during water system emergencies such as water breaks and snow emergencies.

This job may prepare an incumbent for career progression by gaining additional, more complex skills in water distribution system maintenance and operation.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences while coordinating with supervisors and team members to complete assigned tasks.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Overtime as necessary and mandatory during emergency situations
All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a physical exam that includes drug testing
This is an Non-Exempt Position.

Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Essential Functions:

Installs, repairs, and maintains water distribution system infrastructure, including water mains, service lines, valves, fire hydrants, meters, and related components.

Responds to water main breaks, service leaks, and other distribution system emergencies; assists in isolating affected areas, controlling water flow, and restoring service to customers.

Operates valves and hydrants as directed to control water flow, isolate system sections, and support system maintenance and repair activities.

Assists with the installation, repair, and replacement of water services, including tapping mains, installing service connections, and repairing service line leaks.

Performs excavation and back filling operations using hand tools and mechanical equipment; shoring and securing trenches in accordance with safety regulations.

Deploys and maintains traffic control devices and is exposed to traffic conditions while working in or near roadways.

Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and tools used in water distribution maintenance, including dump trucks, pumps, compressors, generators, compactors, saws, and other specialized equipment.

Performs routine maintenance of fire hydrants and valves, including exercising, flushing, lubrication, inspection, and minor repairs.

Restores work sites following maintenance and repair activities by back filling trenches, compacting soil, placing temporary or permanent pavement patches, and restoring disturbed surfaces.

Locates water system components using maps, records, and electronic locating equipment; assists in marking utilities prior to excavation activities.

Enters and works in confined spaces using personal protective equipment and operates under Virginia and OSHA standards for excavation and confined space entry.

Maintains vehicles, equipment, and tools in safe working condition; performs routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and minor maintenance.

Interprets map documents, diagrams, sketches, technical manuals, and uses associated numbering systems for utility assets; interprets various plan drawings.

Competently uses software and computer tablets for email and record-keeping.…
