The Lakevale Estates Dolphins are seeking a Head Coach for the 2026 season. Last summer, Lakevale competed in Division 9 of the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) and participates in the Vienna Area Developmental League on Monday nights. The Dolphins are 100+ neighborhood kids with swimming abilities ranging from pre-team (Mini-Ds) to All-Star level.
We are looking for an experienced and team-oriented head coach to join our crew of returning Jr. Coaches. The Head Coach will focus on stroke development, technique, and race/meet strategy, while strongly fostering a positive team culture and fun team spirit for all swimmers.
Full availability during the summer swim season is a must. Practices begin the Tuesday after Memorial Day and the season concludes in early August.
Head Coach Responsibilities- Attend all practices, meets (Time Trials, Saturday A meets, Monday night B meets, Intra-squad Night, Divisional Relays, All-Star Relays, Divisionals, and Individual All-Stars), along with official team events (pep rallies, Bingo, the end-of-season banquet, and more!)
- Instruct swimmers in correct stroke, turn, start, and finish techniques
- Provide constructive feedback to swimmers during practice and meets and review all disqualifications
- Manage a team of Assistant, Jr, and Volunteer coaches, including creating work schedules and confirming time cards. Provide oversight & mentorship to all coaches
- Work collaboratively with Team Reps
- Lead team cheers during meets
- Instruct Mini-D practices and decide when Mini-Ds are ready to be moved up to the swim team
- Create and implement effective daily practices for varying age groups
- Prepare for competitive Saturday A meets by inputting events into the Swimtopia platform
- Review all entries for meets and conduct post-meet data/performance analysis
- Prior coaching experience in NVSL or club swim
- Extensive competitive swimming background preferred
- Strong knowledge of NVSL rules and procedures
- Ability to develop practice schedules for varying age groups
- Ability to manage coaching staff
- Excellent communication skills with children, parents, volunteers, and coaching staff
- Lifeguard Certification and Pool Operator Certification
