Provide instruction to ensure that students meet learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content.
Duties and Responsibilities- Implement the WV Schools of Diversion and Transition approved program of study.
- Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning, mimicking a real work setting that allows students to practice professional skills and behaviors in a controlled space.
- Utilize instructional techniques and methods to increase student learning.
- Monitor student progress toward mastery of instructional goals and objectives.
- Communicate effectively within the educational community and collaborate with Special Education Teacher to implement IEPs when developing lesson plans.
- Meet professional responsibilities.
- Comply with host agency’s policies and procedures, working cooperatively with host agency staff to ensure a safe and secure environment and integrate treatment and educational goals.
- Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of supplies essential for efficient operation of the program.
- Maintain a safe and secure classroom, ensuring students pass all safety components for their program of study.
- Prepare students to sit for a minimum of one Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) exam, as well as OSHA 10 certification and 6S.
- Maintain appropriate tool control using proper inventory and security of all tools, equipment, and consumables. Inspect and maintain all tools and equipment to ensure safety and accuracy.
- Train students in various automotive systems (e.g., tire repair, automotive service consulting, maintenance services, diagnosis and repair).
- Perform other duties as assigned by principal.
Required Qualifications
- Qualifications for or hold West Virginia Career and Technical Education Licensure as required under State Board of Education Policy 5202. Eligible pathways:
- Wage‑Earning
Experience:
HS diploma with four years (8,000 clock hours) of satisfactory continuous work experience in the welding field; or - Bachelor’s Degree:
Hold a bachelor’s degree and complete two years (4,000 clock hours) of satisfactory continuous work experience in the area for which licensure is requested; or - Associate Degree:
Hold an Associate Degree in a related area and complete two years (4,000 clock hours) of satisfactory continuous work experience in the area for which licensure is requested. - Completion of a full year of training from an approved program may count toward half a year of work experience requirements.
- Wage‑Earning
- Meet testing requirements as outlined in the West Virginia CTE Endorsement and Testing Manual on WVDE website.
- Industry credentials from National Institute for Automotive Services Excellence (e.g., A4‑Suspension and Steering, A5‑Brakes, A6‑Electrical/Electronic Systems, A8‑Engine Performance).
- Possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform job requirements, work within a correctional setting, and work as part of an education and rehabilitation team.
- Prior teaching experience (3 years preferred).
- Experience working in a correctional facility.
- Experience working in an interagency setting.
Department of Education staff are employed upon recommendation of the State Superintendent of Schools and are state employees. Employment is at‑will, subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools or the employee at any time. The relationship is governed by state policies and procedures.
