Job Summary:

Assist with technical and specialized work related to electrical and control systems, including analysis, detection, and repair of single-loop control systems, electronic devices, communication systems, and instruments such as meters, gauges, and regulators. The technician performs tests, surveys, layout work, and prepares documentation of results.

Controls Technician Jr

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in locating and repairing defects in control systems involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic components using wiring, schematic, logic, or control diagrams.
  • Assist in low- and medium-voltage circuit breaker electrical/mechanical interlock checks, repairs, and adjustments associated with breakers and plant electrical control and distribution systems.
  • Assist or perform preventive maintenance and repair activities on equipment such as batteries, motors, compressed air systems, fork‑lifts, electric heaters, etc.
  • Make required equipment checks and inspections; record data, assist in performing tests, and prepare reports, graphs, sketches, and curves.
  • Compile and record data related to projects, tests, and investigations; ensure all work meets standards and specifications.
  • Assist in engineering layouts and prepare data for engineering procedures, specifications, contracts, bills of materials, and requisitions for installation, maintenance, and operation of equipment.
  • Use the work‑management system to locate or request parts, create work requests/ work orders, and record work histories.
  • Request and accept permits to ensure equipment is cleared and tagged before work.
  • Assist in installing and removing grounds as directed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Two‑year associate’s degree in electronics or a qualifying engineering or science discipline.
  • Or high‑school diploma with two or more years of related military experience.
  • Or high‑school diploma with five or more years of related industrial technical electrical or controls experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete the Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test and a physical abilities assessment.
  • Perform duties in compliance with federal, state, local, and company environmental, safety, and health regulations.
  • Report unsafe conditions and stop work if necessary.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, regulatory, and environmental guidelines.
  • Physical demand level is medium: lifting up to 50 lb, carrying 35 lb, pushing/pulling up to 65 lb, frequent walking, standing, climbing ladders or stairs, squatting, kneeling, using hand tools and motorized equipment, and operating in cold, heat, dust, or fumes.

Salary: $34.61 – $36.96 per hour

Controls Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Locate and repair defects in control systems involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components using wiring, schematic, logic or control diagrams.
  • Install, remove, inspect, adjust, repair and calibrate instrumentation not associated with active trips (e.g., pressure, temperature, flow, gas analyzers, transmitters, receivers, recorders, chemical testing devices).
  • Make simple circuit analysis and repair relays, electronic devices, meters, communication components, and similar circuits.
  • Perform simple control system monitoring and program modifications using a computer interface terminal and available monitoring systems.
  • Complete low- and medium-voltage circuit breaker electrical/mechanical interlock checks, repairs, and adjustments.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment such as batteries, motors, compressed air systems, fork‑lifts, electric heaters, HVAC systems, etc.
  • Make required equipment checks and inspections; record data and prepare reports, graphs, sketches, and curves.
  • Assist with engineering layouts and prepare data for engineering procedures, specifications, contracts, bills of materials, and requisitions.
  • Conduct control loop and input/output checks on new and replacement equipment.
  • Use the work‑management system for parts, work requests, and record keeping.
  • Request and accept permits; install and remove grounds as directed.
