Job OverviewAre you a PLC Programmer who can build control logic from the ground up — not just modify what's already there? Mural Industrial is hiring a skilled PLC Programmer for a large-scale project with a global manufacturing leader in Apple Grove, WV (outside Huntington, WV). This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with excellent pay, daily per diem, and the chance to program advanced PLC-based control systems from scratch on a major industrial build.
WhatYou'll Do
Develop PLC programs from scratch, including ladder logic, function block diagrams, and structured text, based on process requirements and control narratives.
Program primarily in Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal (S7-300/400/1200/1500);
Allen-Bradley (RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000) or other platforms also welcome.Design and build I/O configurations, data structures, and program architecture for new control systems.
Integrate HMI/SCADA screens with PLC programs and configure tag databases.
Commission, test, and debug programs on-site, including I/O checkout and loop tuning.
Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and panel layouts to inform program design.
Coordinate with electricians and controls technicians on I/O wiring, sensor installation, and panel integration.
Troubleshoot control system issues in the field with minimal supervision.
Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures.
Document program logic, I/O lists, and system architecture for handoff.
3+ years of experience programming PLCs from scratch (not solely modifying or troubleshooting existing programs).
Strong, hands‑on experience with Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal — this is a strong preference for this role.
Willing to consider candidates with equivalent from‑scratch programming experience in Allen‑Bradley (RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000) or other major PLC platforms (e.g., Omron, Mitsubishi, Schneider).
Solid understanding of electrical schematics, I/O wiring, and control panel layouts.
Strong knowledge of NEC/IEC wiring standards and safety practices.
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and panel schematics.
You should be proficient in:
Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal Programming
PLC Programming from Scratch (Ladder Logic, FBD, Structured Text)
Allen-Bradley / Other PLC Platforms (a plus)
Electrical Schematic Interpretation
HMI/SCADA Integration
HMI/SCADA development experience (Siemens WinCC, Allen Bradley Factory Talk/Panel View, or similar).
Experience with industrial networking protocols (Profibus, Profinet, Ether Net/IP, Device Net).
Motion control, drives, or safety PLC programming experience.
Previous work on large industrial or manufacturing projects, ideally in metals or heavy manufacturing.
PLC cabinet assembly and field device troubleshooting experience.
