Teacher Assistant

Work within the school and community setting under the direction of the classroom teacher to maximize students' learning. Support students in academic, behavioral, functional, and social/emotional areas. Foster student participation in all school-related activities. Monitor and assist students in their daily routines across various settings. Provide individual or small group instruction under the teacher's supervision. Offer academic support tailored to the student's academic level.

Accompany students and provide academic and/or behavioral support in inclusion settings. Communicate with students in a manner suited to their needs. Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students. Assist students with bathroom and hygiene needs as requested. Support individual student therapy programs as directed by related services staff or classroom teachers. Conduct active supervision, including bus duty, community outings, playground, lunchroom, and passing periods.

Follow through on behavioral programs and classroom routines as directed. Assist with transportation needs, including buckling seat belts and harnesses. Maintain equipment, materials, and school property. Assist students in using and caring for adaptive equipment. Help develop classroom materials such as cutting, typing, copying, and laminating. Keep a clean and orderly learning environment. Demonstrate commitment to student safety by maintaining a safe environment.

Work professionally with all staff and personnel. Participate in specialized training as requested. Engage in team planning meetings or IEP meetings as needed. Travel during the day to different sites as required. Take initiative when specific tasks are not assigned. Follow through with classroom teacher routines and procedures.
