This position oversees daily instruction, supervision, and evaluation of preschool students and requires strong collaboration with the co‑teacher and preschool team. The teacher will write and implement lesson plans, maintain an organized learning environment, and ensure professionalism, safety, and high-quality customer service.

This is a part‑time position. August through May. Monday/Wednesday/ Friday 8:45-11:45 am. Additional paid time may be required for lesson planning, classroom preparation, meetings, and professional development as approved by the Recreation Supervisor

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and classroom activities.
• Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Provide active supervision of children at all times.
• Assist with daily arrival and dismissal of children, including greeting families and following established child release procedures.
• Foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development through play-based learning.
• Use positive behavior guidance and effective classroom management strategies.
• Prepare and maintain classroom materials, learning centers, and supplies.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
• Build strong relationships and communicate professionally with children, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Observe children’s development and communicate concerns or progress as appropriate.
• Complete attendance records, incident reports, lesson plans, and required documentation accurately and on time.
• Follow all Recreation Department policies, procedures, safety practices, and emergency protocols.
• Attend required staff meetings, trainings, professional development opportunities and assist with other department programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED with previous experience working with children. Classroom management and communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts and tailor communication to multiple audiences.

Must be able to successfully pass a background screening. CPR and First Aid certification required, or ability to obtain within 2 months. Complete Illinois Mandated Reporter Training upon hire.

• Ability to effectively apply written and oral English language skills, additional Spanish language skills is advantageous but not required.
• Advanced organization skills, maintain multiple projects and schedules; ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing individually or in a group setting.
• Ability to work under stressful situations.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to adapt to changing program needs and participant abilities.
