Purpose:

Sr Engineer – Overhead AME (Area Maintenance Engineer) serves as the technical lead for transmission line asset health, combining engineering analysis, program development, project coordination, and field support. The role is responsible for evaluating system performance, investigating issues, identifying emerging risks, and developing practical solutions that improve asset reliability and longevity.

Working closely with other Area Maintenance Engineers (AMEs), Operations, Asset Management, and Work Management, this position helps develop and execute maintenance and reliability initiatives across the overhead transmission system. The successful candidate will build and maintain a strong understanding of overhead transmission line design, maintenance practices, and asset health drivers to support both day-to-day decision making and long-term planning.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the role coordinates maintenance-related projects and programs, including scope development, budget and schedule management, stakeholder engagement, contractor coordination, and implementation planning. The position is well suited for an engineer who enjoys combining technical problem solving with project management responsibilities and can effectively move initiatives from concept through execution.

Responsibilities may include technical evaluations, root cause investigations, maintenance planning, standards development, design reviews, business case development, cost-benefit analyses, and providing engineering support during maintenance activities, construction, and emergent repairs. The role also works across multiple organizations to improve work processes, support investment decisions, and enhance overall system performance.

May be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies

Primary Duties
  • Leads and performs assignments in specialized areas requiring extensive engineering expertise, requiring maintaining state-of-the-art engineering credential in the specialized technical area
  • Leads and performs engineering tasks and projects associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas, may include field testing, troubleshooting, and peer review
  • Evaluates complex technical issues that require highly specialized knowledge in very specific areas and recommends actions or programs for their resolution, which may necessitate the review/evaluation of engineering design documents:
  • Evaluates, develops, implements, and leads projects that have significant financial and operational impact, may also develop initial commissioning plans. Plans, writes, and performs tasks for documentation deliverables and projects
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others
  • Participates in department planning, through field/site walkdowns, attend meetings/conference calls, provide budget recommendations, and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results
  • May participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in area of company interest

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer (Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes methods, and practices unique to areas of expertise.
  • 7+ years of professional engineering experience (Thorough knowledge and experience in unique areas of engineering expertise)
  • Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues.
