Position: Police Officer Lateral Recruitment

Position Overview

The Village of Villa Park Police Department is committed to providing quality service to residents and visitors of the city. The department maintains strong relationships with other local agencies, schools, and businesses and is dedicated to safeguarding freedom, preserving life and property, and protecting constitutional rights for all individuals.

Applicants Must Meet

Minimum Requirements
  • State of Illinois certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. (Part‑time certification does not meet this requirement.)
  • Must be at least 23 years old.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • At least two years’ experience as a full‑time sworn, certified law‑enforcement officer with an Illinois agency within the last three years.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must agree to comply with all position requirements and have the ability to pass all examination and training requirements.
  • Ability to furnish upon request a copy of:
  • Professional licenses.
  • Training certificates.
  • Birth certificate.
  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Transcripts from higher education.
  • Naval or military service board and discharge papers (DD‑214).
  • Any other employment‑related materials as requested.
Selection Process
  • Pre‑screening application review by Police Department Command Staff.
  • Interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners and Police Command Staff.
  • Character and background investigation, and credit check.
  • Polygraph examination.
  • Post‑offer examinations, including psychological evaluation, medical examination, vision screening, and drug screening.
  • All appointments are subject to a probationary period.
