Primary PurposeUnder direct supervision in a field crew, perform groundwork associated with construction, repair, or maintenance of overhead lines. Perform the less‑skilled manual operations as a member of a crew in connection with the Construction and Maintenance work on the overhead system. Must be able to work outdoors in wind, rain, sleet, cold, heat, snow, etc., and perform manual work such as digging, back‑filling, removing dirt and debris, mixing cement, assembling and dismantling operations of equipment, cutting weeds, and shoveling snow.
Must be able to climb and work at heights with hand tools and power tools, drive trucks with and without trailers, and maintain an excellent safety record. Overtime work, including responding to callouts, is required.
- Prepare for job operations by transporting tools and equipment from the truck to the work area.
- Hoist tools and equipment to workers on the pole and receive tools lowered to the ground.
- Perform minor assembling and dismantling operations such as installing pole and arm hardware, earth anchors, pole guards, ground wires, and mouldings.
- Execute manual work such as digging, removing dirt, mixing cement, back‑filling, tamping, lifting and carrying poles, and sawing and splitting poles.
- Work in vaults by carrying tools, equipment and materials to the work area, moving heavy equipment with teammates, and cleaning the area after completion.
- Drive truck or truck‑and‑trailer, operate trailer‑mounted equipment (excluding power‑driven wire‑reeling equipment and pole‑hole diggers), and operate portable equipment such as generators, concrete breakers, and hand pumps.
- Safeguard the public during hazardous operations and promote safety on the job.
- Perform watch and guard duty on and around mobile emergency equipment as assigned.
- Carry out additional related work as assigned.
- Within 90 days of classification into this job, demonstrate the ability to satisfactorily use pole climbers and safety belts.
- This position requires participation in the local union and payment of union dues.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver’s Instruction permit.
- Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test.
- Advanced certification from an Electrical Line Worker Program or relevant military experience or completion of Albat or equivalent, or 1–2 years of previous utility construction experience.
- Successful completion of company assessments.
- Pole climbing experience.
- Military experience.
- Construction (residential, commercial or civil) or skilled trade experience.
- Hourly rates: $31.97/Hr., based on skills, qualifications, experience, or collective bargaining agreement.
- Annual bonus for eligible positions: 4%.
