This job description is for a Full-Time Diesel Technology Facultyposition at the Vincennes Campus. This role is much broader thanjust teaching; it involves instruction, program development,administrative duties, and student support.
Key Responsibilities and DutiesThe main function is to teach Diesel Technology Courses, but therole is also critical to the expansion of the VU Cummins, Diesel,and John Deere Technology programs.
- Instruction: Organize and present instructionalmaterials, communicate subject matter clearly, evaluate student performance, and assign grades.
- Program Development/Coordination: Play a pivotal role inprogram expansion, conduct research to maintain current industry standards, and initiate purchase requisitions.
- Student Guidance & Support: Provide guidance to students during lab assignments, communicate with them at various stages of learning, assist with student recruitment and graduateplacement, and enforce departmental rules.
- Administrative/Maintenance: Maintain records(attendance, progress, supplies, equipment), maintain discipline,participate in program housekeeping, and prepare dailyinstructional plans.
The faculty member must have a strong background in repairinglight-, medium-, and heavy-duty transportation, construction,agricultural, or power-generation equipment.
- Technical Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable in safety,electrical and electronics, diesel engines, HVAC, hydraulic,powertrain, preventive maintenance, and steering and suspensionsystems.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 to 7 years offull-time, documented industry experience is required, depending onthe level of education.
- Certifications: Applicable ASE or industry-specific certifications are required or must be obtainable.
There are three ways to qualify for the position:
- Bachelor's Degree: Concentration in Diesel or Agricultural Mechanization Technology or a related area,
plus aminimum of 3 years of full-time industry experience. - Associate's Degree: In Diesel Technology or a relatedarea,
plus a minimum of 5 years of full-time industry experience. - Related Disciplines/
Experience:
A minimum of 7years of full-time experience in light/medium/heavytransportation, construction, agricultural, or power-generationequipment.
The Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's credentials.
