Description
The Vincennes University Performing Arts Department is seeking applicants for a part‑time position as Adjunct Instructor of Guitarat the Vincennes campus beginning the fall academic year.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide collegiate level private instruction for vocal students as well as directvocal performing ensembles.
Candidates must have a Master'sdegree in Music (with major emphasis in Guitar) or a Master’sdegree in a related field with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Music (with major emphasis in Guitar).
Job Description /Responsibilities:- Teach applied guitar lessons (music major, pre-major, and elective levels) to freshmen and sophomore students.
- Prepare applied guitar students for student recitals, masterclasses, midterm juried assessments, and end of semester juries.
- Participate in departmental recruitment efforts and activities as needed.
- Provide a quality learning experience for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of course standards and objectives.
- Teach and maintain courses in accordance with university and departmental policies and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the subject area the individual will be teaching. The instructor is expected to have extensive knowledge and training in the classical guitar style. (Additional knowledge and experience in jazz and/or rock, pop, and other playing styles is encouraged.)
- Ability to work with a variety of learning styles and skill levels.
- Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students.
- Experience teaching in higher education (particularly community college experience) is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Ability to work in an ever‑changing, fast‑paced environment.
