Experience VU Student Support Services peer tutors provide student-centered academic support and mentorship to help peers develop subject mastery, study skills, and executive function strategies. Acting as a dependable academic role model, this position fosters an inclusive environment that encourages independent learning, maintains confidentiality, and supports students with varied learning styles.
Responsibilities:- Demonstrate competency in tutoring subjects, study skills, and executive function strategies
- Provide mentoring and encourage independent behavior
- Document the time and a brief description of all tutoring contacts
- Complete required training
- Maintain FERPA
- Understand sensitivity toward the students’ needs
- Dependable and trustworthy
- Demonstration of leadership qualities
- Willingness to problem-solve and work independently
- Ability to effectively communicate with and mentor students with varied learning styles
- Recommendation from a faculty member tor tutoring subjects
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Demonstrated leadership in academic settings
Normal physical demands for successful work in a normal office environment: ability to sit or stand for extended periods, ability to utilize hands for general office work including typing, filing, answering telephones, and writing.
