Experience VU Student Support Services peer tutors provide student-centered academic support and mentorship to help peers develop subject mastery, study skills, and executive function strategies. Acting as a dependable academic role model, this position fosters an inclusive environment that encourages independent learning, maintains confidentiality, and supports students with varied learning styles.

• Demonstrate competency in tutoring subjects, study skills, and executive function strategies
• Provide mentoring and encourage independent behavior
• Document the time and a brief description of all tutoring contacts
• Complete required training
• Maintain FERPA

• Understand sensitivity toward the students’ needs
• Dependable and trustworthy
• Demonstration of leadership qualities
• Willingness to problem-solve and work independently
• Ability to effectively communicate with and mentor students with varied learning styles

• Recommendation from a faculty member tor tutoring subjects
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Demonstrated leadership in academic settings

Normal physical demands for successful work in a normal office environment: ability to sit or stand for extended periods, ability to utilize hands for general office work including typing, filing, answering telephones, and writing.
