The Utility Engineer position at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Southwest District serves as a technical expert and subject matter expert in utility coordination for transportation projects. The role involves managing a large portfolio of projects, coordinating utility relocations and railroad issues, and providing leadership and mentorship to a team of utility coordinators. Approximately 25% of the time is spent in the field on project sites, and the position requires a Professional Engineer License or EIT Certificate.
Keyqualifications:
- Professional Engineer License in Indiana required; EIT or FE certification acceptable for lower-level classification
- Valid Driver's License
- Extensive knowledge of federal and state utility laws, regulations, and highway/transportation project design
- 4+ years of professional experience in civil engineering, transportation research, or related field
- Knowledge of computer-aided design, AASHTO standards, and INDOT systems (SPMS, dTIMS, ArcGIS, WMS)
- Strong communication and collaborative skills with ability to work with utility companies, railroads, and design engineers
