The pharmacy manager is responsible for the overall operation, management, and financial performance of the pharmacy. This leadership position ensures the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care, compliance with all state and federal regulations, and the achievement of business objectives. The pharmacy manager fosters a positive work environment, develops staff, and builds strong relationships within the local healthcare community.

This position provides direct supervision, leadership, and performance management to all pharmacy staff, including staff pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns and support staff, and reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Essential Functions
  • Oversees all daily pharmacy operations, ensuring efficient workflow, patient safety, and compliance with all legal and regulatory standards
  • Manages the pharmacy’s financial performance, including budgeting, inventory control, expense management, and achieving profitability targets
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency, workflow optimization, and patient outcomes
  • Leads, hires, trains, mentors, and evaluates pharmacy staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement
  • Ensures accurate and safe medication dispensing processes and provides clinical oversight and patient counseling as needed
  • Maintains comprehensive perpetual inventory control, manages procurement, and ensures strict compliance with all DEA regulations for controlled substances
  • Develops and expands clinical services offered by the pharmacy, such as immunization programs and medication therapy management (MTM)
  • Resolves complex customer service issues and addresses escalated insurance and billing problems
  • Ensures the physical facility is maintained according to safety and sanitation standards
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Chief Executive Officer
Work-Related Experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a licensed pharmacist, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role within a pharmacy setting
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with complex medical or behavioral health needs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Mental
  • Ability to maintain a high level of concentration and accuracy while overseeing medication dispensing, regulatory compliance, and financial operations
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret laws, regulations, financial reports, and operational data
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and evaluate staff while handling complex customer service situations
  • Capacity to respond effectively to emergencies, escalated concerns, and regulatory inquiries
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards
Physical
  • Prolonged periods of standing throughout the shift
  • Frequent walking within the pharmacy work area
  • Ability to pull, push, lift, and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Ability and willingness to perform tasks which include pushing, pulling, grasping, and lifting with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for medication preparation, dispensing, computer entry, and operating pharmacy equipment
Working Conditions
  • Retail or outpatient pharmacy setting with frequent interaction with patients, healthcare providers, staff, and vendors
  • Fast-paced environment requiring continuous attention to workflow, accuracy, safety, and customer service
  • Frequent use of pharmacy management systems, computers, and standard office equipment
Education, Certification, and Licensure
  • Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.

    D.) degree from an accredited institution or equivalent
  • Licensure: Must possess and maintain an active, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state on Indiana

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with experience in staff development and performance management
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy law, and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent business acumen, analytical, and problem-solving skills to manage financial and operational metrics
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders
