Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our specialty unit s role involves providing essential support in a dynamic healthcare environment, focusing on patient care for complex conditions including tracheostomy care, bariatric patients, nocturnal ventilation, and stroke care. The PCT will work under the direction of registered nurses to maintain a safe and clean environment, assist with basic patient needs, and monitor vital signs.
Patient ratios are 1:5 for Step-Down/Progressive Care Unit (SD/PCU) and 1:6 if floated to acute care. The unit is divided by shifts:
Morning Shift (MSD) cares for peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, Evening Shift (CSD) cares for stroke patients, and Night Shift (SSD) cares for surgical patients. Floating may occur within the specialty or to Elmer as needed.
Key Responsibilities Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment in patient rooms and service areas.
Assist licensed personnel with basic patient care needs, including but not limited to personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding.
Monitor and record patient vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
Provide support for patients with tracheostomies, bariatric needs, nocturnal ventilation, and stroke-related care.
Respond to patient call lights and report any changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
Assist with patient transfers, positioning, and ambulation as directed.
Perform basic clerical tasks, such as charting and inventory management.
Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Participate in unit-specific training and orientation to ensure competency in specialty care areas.
Qualifications and Requirements High school graduate or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Patient Care Technician (PCT) in an acute hospital setting.
Demonstrated patient bedside experience, including taking vital signs and assisting with daily care.
Certification/Licensure: CNA, PCT, or CMA certification accepted. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Reliable transportation is mandatory, as floating to Elmer or other locations may be required.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

Request Time Off (RTO) :
No more than 3 days allowed.
Floating : PCT/CNA role with potential to float within specialty or to Elmer as needed.
Orientation and Onboarding
First Day Instructions :
Candidates will receive an email directly from Inspira the Friday before their Monday start date. This email will include instructions for signing on to the Virtual Welcome meeting and completing online Health Stream modules from Human Resources. The virtual session must be attended by 8:30 AM on Monday, and all assigned modules must be completed by the end of the day or the candidate will be removed from the orientation list.
In-Person Classes :
Typically scheduled Tuesday through Thursday. Locations are not specified in the initial email; candidates must use Health Stream to confirm class locations on the day of.
Note:
The POCT (Point-of-Care Testing) class is required but not part of orientation week.
Unit-Based Orientation :
Scheduled by the manager following initial classes.
Badge :
Instructions for scheduling an in-person appointment to receive the will be provided. Photo submissions are not permitted; the badge must be obtained during orientation. It is required for clocking in.
Important Note :
Failure to complete the full orientation will result in immediate termination. Once scheduled, candidates do not have the option to reschedule any classes.
