Summary of Position

Assist in all aspects of large‑scale commercial cannabis cultivation; maintain high safety and timeliness standards, respond to plant needs, collaborate with support staff, follow direction from the Cultivation Manager, and uphold company productivity and quality standards. Demonstrate creative problem solving, interpersonal conflict resolution, and critical thinking.

Job Duties Perform all cultivation tasks including
  • Maintaining a clean and organized working environment.
  • Managing plant schedules and organization.
  • Maintaining garden needs on a daily, weekly, monthly, and harvest batch basis.
  • Maintaining a consistent harvest/production schedule for multiple cultivars in multiple flowering environs.
  • Cloning and propagation.
  • Transplanting.
  • Nutrient recipes and reservoir maintenance.
  • Feeding plants.
  • Defoliation and general canopy maintenance.
  • Super‑cropping and topping (coppicing).
  • Transitioning from vegetative to flowering.
  • Monitoring EC (ppm) & pH levels in both nutrient reservoirs & planted media.
  • Monitoring and maintaining ideal CO₂ enrichment.
  • Waste disposal.
  • Tracking and tagging plants for inventory and identification purposes.
Develop & Demonstrate knowledge and/or implementation of
  • Integrated pest management (fostering symbiotic relationships within planted environs to prevent pathogens and pests).
  • Best sustainable cultivation management practices whenever possible.
  • Basic plumbing and drainage.
  • Basic electrical (e.g., 120 V vs. 208/240 V).
  • Troubleshooting cultivation equipment failure.
  • A wide array of cannabis strains and their particular medical uses.
  • Starting plants from seed and identifying males vs. female plants.
  • Recognition of, prevention of, and response to hermaphroditic plant organs.
Supplies and Inventory Management

Assist Lead Cultivator in maintaining inventory for all cultivation related supplies including soil/soilless media, geopots, nutrients, compost tea ingredients, pH adjusters, media rinsing agents, water filters, etc.

Performance Requirements
  • Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and events when needed.
  • Knowledge of cannabis strains and genetics, growing practices, and medicinal effects of Cannabis.
  • Ability to maintain plants accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to collect and record accurate production data.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, problem‑solving, and decision‑making.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, honestly, and effectively with staff, management, and community members in all situations.
  • Ability to perceive and meet the needs of the team with moderate direction.
  • Ability to maintain high standards in a fast‑paced, constantly evolving environment.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic to make calculations.
  • Skill in computer systems, programs, and applications.
  • High level of patience and flexibility.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing industry and an expanding organization.
Time Commitment

The Cultivation Assistant must coordinate with the Cultivation Manager and supporting staff to maintain a healthy, sustainable balance between on‑duty time and personal time. Due to the unpredictable nature of the job, the assistant may be expected to respond beyond normal on‑site expectations.

Typical Working Conditions

Work is performed in a busy cannabis nursery facility and/or operations/finishing area. The greenhouse can be loud due to fans and filtration systems, fluctuating between extreme cold and hot temperatures. Employees are exposed to typical chemicals found in a crop production facility (e.g., fertilizers) and must use proper protective wear as outlined by Safety Data Sheets. Based on plant needs and harvest schedules, employees may be expected to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, holidays, and/or events.
