Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse Critical Care is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice and research.

RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by Wellstar Values. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses in Critical Care are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Perform the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, ensuring care is individualized and coordinating care through effective partnerships.
  • Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care consistent with population-specific characteristics, adapting service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
  • Always partner with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods such as bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, just-in-time and planned patient teaching, keeping the patient and significant others updated and making patient goals the focus of the plan of care.
  • Practice using current clinical practice standards.
  • Coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods, timely documentation and promotion of a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and promoting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participate and support performance improvement activities, research utilization and shared governance at all levels within the system.
  • Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education and population-specific education.
  • Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines) to ensure a current and future qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
  • Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research and performance improvement, participating in activities such as value analysis for evaluating patient care products.
  • Uphold all health care system/organizational policies, procedures and clinical competencies, including legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards and patient safety goals.
  • Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice, consult appropriate experts and use appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions.
  • Proactively plan for patient care across the care continuum while providing direct patient care.
  • Participate in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self-initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes.
  • Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; comply with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work and code of conduct.

Minimum Education
  • Associate's Nursing or Diploma (Nurse)
  • Bachelor's Nursing (Preferred)
