General Accountant

Main Purpose of the Role

To ensure principles of accounting are being applied to the financial information of the organization timely and accurately.

• Handles daily accounting tasks such as journal entries, corrections, invoice processing and PO creation.
• P&L reconciliation preparation with initial review of accounting vs budget differences.
• Completes required filings for compliance with municipalities.
• Assists with the creation of Purchase Orders, GL coding support and posting confirmations.
• Prepares supporting schedules for audit & tax filings (quarterly and yearly).
• Completes bank reconciliation preparation including review of aged outstanding checks.
• Supports budgeting and forecasting efforts (agency and region) under supervision.
• Assists with financial reporting and compliance by creating and analyzing system reports.
• Posting of fixed assets, Lease Schedules and monthly depreciation.
• General intercompany postings versus other agencies.
• Manual upload of Demurrage and Detention Revenue.
• Manual posting of Demurrage refund through commercial consideration.
• Other general accounting tasks.
• Ad hoc requests.

• Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Accounting from a four-year college or university.
• 1 to 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft applications. Advanced proficiency in Excel is preferred.
• Deadline oriented; ability to efficiently plan and prioritize tasks based on urgency.
• Intermediate proficiency in data analysis and interpretation of data trends.
