Job Summary
LaRossa & Co. is seeking a highly skilled Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to join our public accounting team in Virginia Beach, VA
. This unique dual-function role blends corporate and individual tax planning with comprehensive financial statement auditing. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in a variety of industries. You will serve as a primary client advisor, driving compliance, maximizing tax deferrals, and ensuring rigorous audit standards.
This position is an on-site role in our Virginia Beach office and offers a direct path to firm leadership. We are actively seeking a professional with a strong interest in ownership and partnership in LaRossa & Co. over the long term.
Key Responsibilities
Firm Leadership & Path to Ownership
- Strategic Practice Growth: Maintain a long-term interest in firm equity, contributing to organizational scaling and business development.
- Client Retention: Serve as a principal point of contact, transforming technical compliance delivery into long-term advisory relationships.
- Firm Operations: Participate in executive decision-making, workflow optimization, and staff mentoring to prepare for operational leadership.
Tax Compliance & Planning
- Diverse Entities: Prepare, review, and file complex federal, state, and multi-state returns across all business and individual structures including Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, and 1120S using Ultra Tax CS
. - Manage Complex Deferrals: Formulate strategies for complex residential, multi-family, or mixed-use developments navigating the latest tax reform updates.
- Resolve Multi-State Nuances: Troubleshoot and correctly calculate complex multi-state and local filings, including non-resident state and local tax withholding allocations.
Audit & Assurance
- Lead Financial Audits: Plan, execute, and wrap up comprehensive, detailed audits to validate financial reporting and internal controls.
- Integrate Systems: Bridge audit data smoothly into tax workflows using integrated software diagnostics to eliminate file conversion discrepancies.
- Liaise with Management: Brief client executives on audit findings, internal control vulnerabilities, and operational improvements.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Licensure: Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 4+ years of experience in public accounting with a proven track record in both tax and audit environments.
- Technical Tax Expertise: Demonstrated mastery in filing 1040 (Individuals), 1041 (Estates and Trusts), 1065 (Partnerships), 1120 (C-Corporations), and 1120S (S-Corporations).
- Location & Work Type: Must live within commuting distance or be willing to relocate to Virginia Beach, VA for this full-time, on-site position at LaRossa & Co.
Preferred Skills
- Software Expertise: Mastery of the Thomson Reuters Ultra Tax CS software suite, including complex diagnostics and multi-state allocation features.
- Specialized Knowledge: Practical understanding of IRC Section 460
, the look-back method, and construction cost-accounting metrics. - Long-Term Vision: A clear career focus on public accounting partnership and the entrepreneurial drive to manage a firm's book of business.
