Interim Payroll Manager

Description

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Consultant to lead payroll operations for a large, complex workforce. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for a finance and accounting specialist who brings strong payroll leadership, technical expertise, and a sharp focus on accuracy, compliance, and process oversight. The person in this role will guide day-to-day payroll execution, support a small team, and contribute to key system-related initiatives while maintaining dependable service for a high-volume employee population.

Responsibilities:

- Direct end-to-end payroll operations for a workforce exceeding 10,000 employees, ensuring timely and accurate processing.

- Supervise and support a small payroll team, setting priorities, reviewing work, and promoting consistent performance standards.

- Monitor payroll controls, audits, and compliance practices to reduce risk and maintain adherence to internal and regulatory requirements.

- Partner with accounting and finance stakeholders to reconcile payroll activity, resolve discrepancies, and support reporting needs.

- Contribute to system implementation and data conversion efforts, helping validate payroll information and improve transition accuracy.

- Review payroll-related workflows and identify opportunities to strengthen efficiency, documentation, and operational consistency.

- Serve as a subject matter expert for in-house payroll processes, providing guidance on escalated issues and complex payroll scenarios.

- Assist in gathering business requirements and supporting payroll-related process improvements tied to enterprise systems such as Workday and Oracle.

Requirements - 7+ years of experience in payroll, accounting, or finance roles with significant payroll leadership responsibilities.

- Proven background managing high-volume in-house payroll operations for large employee populations.

- Demonstrated experience overseeing payroll teams and ensuring accurate, compliant payroll delivery.

- Strong knowledge of payroll controls, auditing practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.

- Hands-on experience supporting system implementations, payroll data validation, or related process change initiatives.

- Prior exposure to Workday is highly preferred, including Workday HCM; experience with Oracle is also valuable.

- Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex payroll environments.
