The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Deputy Registrar I to support voter registration and election operations. This position performs essential clerical duties to ensure accurate voter records and the smooth execution of state and federal elections in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform general clerical work related to voter registration and election processes
- Greet and assist the public by providing information on:
- Voter registration and changes to existing registrations
- Election activities and polling locations
- Absentee ballots and voting procedures
- Proof of residency letters and candidate expenditure reports
- Register voters and accurately enter data into the state voter registration system
- Assist with absentee voting, in-person voting, and demonstrate voting machines as needed
- Maintain and restock voter registration applications and identify appropriate distribution locations
- Perform data entry, word processing, and basic spreadsheet preparation
- Ensure compliance with state and federal election laws, as well as directives from the Electoral Board and Director of Elections
- Work independently under general supervision while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on departmental needs and workload
Qualifications:
Must be a registered voter
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent customer service and communication abilities
Ability to interact professionally with the public in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer skills, including data entry and Microsoft Office
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Previous clerical, administrative, or customer service experience preferred
