Job Description:Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads - both students and employers - for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions.
The college had 3,399 graduates in , 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. The Administrative and Office Specialist II provides comprehensive frontline administrative, clerical, and operational support to the Educational Accessibility Coordinator and Educational Accessibility Counselors across all four campuses. This position serves as a primary point of contact for students, families, faculty, and staff, delivering high-quality customer service while ensuring efficient office operations. The role also supports procurement and financial processes, including ordering supplies and processing contracts through AIS and eVA.
FunctionalResponsibilities:
Administrative & Operational Support
- Provide direct administrative support to the Educational Accessibility Coordinator and counseling staff
- Schedule appointments, meetings, and events across multiple campuses
- Maintain organized filing systems (electronic and physical)
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records in relevant databases
- Respond to inquiries in a professional, courteous, and timely manner
- Provide guidance on office processes and direct individuals to appropriate resources
- Utilize institutional systems such as SIS and disability database to support service delivery
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with FERPA and institutional policies
- Assist with ordering office supplies and maintaining inventory
- Process contracts, invoices, and payments through AIS and eVA
- Support budget tracking and financial documentation as needed
- Work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff across all campuses
- Support office-wide initiatives and special projects
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of office processes and service delivery
- Demonstrated ability to provide courteous, responsive, and professional customer service
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in contemporary computer applications, including:
- Word processing and spreadsheets
- Database systems and student information systems
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations, including FERPA and ADA
- Knowledge of college policies and procedure
