Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee a federal renovation project in the Virginia Beach area. In this fully onsite role, you will manage all on-site construction activities, coordinate subcontractors, maintain project schedules, enforce safety requirements, and ensure all work complies with contract documents, federal standards, and quality expectations. You will serve as a hands-on leader who drives project execution while maintaining clear and consistent communication with project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

+ Oversee all on-site construction activities for a federal renovation project in the Virginia Beach area.

+ Manage daily field operations to ensure work progresses safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents and project specifications.

+ Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, ensuring proper sequencing of work and adherence to project schedules.

+ Develop, maintain, and update construction schedules, tracking progress and adjusting plans as needed to meet milestones and deadlines.

+ Enforce safety requirements on site, including compliance with OSHA 30 and EM 385 standards, and promote a strong safety culture among all workers.

+ Review, interpret, and implement construction drawings and specifications, ensuring field work aligns with design intent and contract requirements.

+ Lead and support renovation, interior fit-out, and facility modernization activities, including work in occupied or operational facilities when required.

+ Conduct regular quality control inspections and ensure all work meets established quality standards and federal construction requirements.

+ Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, logs, inspections, and other required records.

+ Collaborate closely with project stakeholders, including owners, design teams, and internal project personnel, to communicate progress, issues, and solutions.

+ Identify potential issues or conflicts in the field and proactively develop and implement corrective actions.

+ Ensure compliance with installation or site access requirements for work on federal, military, or government facilities.

+ Utilize Microsoft Office and construction management software to manage schedules, documentation, and reporting.

+ Support construction means and methods planning, including logistics, sequencing, and subcontractor coordination.

+ Provide strong on-site leadership by setting expectations, resolving conflicts, and fostering a professional, productive work environment.

Essential Skills

+ 5-10 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, including renovation, interior fit-out, or facility modernization projects.

+ 5+ years of experience overseeing commercial, institutional, or federal construction projects.

+ Experience working on federal, military, or government construction projects.

+ Experience managing renovation projects within occupied or operational facilities.

+ Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, sequencing, scheduling, and subcontractor management.

+ Proven ability to coordinate and supervise subcontractors on active construction sites.

+ Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications accurately.

+ Experience conducting quality control inspections and maintaining detailed project documentation.

+ Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to lead field teams effectively.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain installation or site access requirements for federal or military facilities.

+ Familiarity with OSHA 30 safety standards.

+ Familiarity with EM 385 safety requirements.

+

Experience with construction scheduling and quality control (QC) processes.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ OSHA 30 certification preferred.

+ Experience on federal, military, or government construction projects preferred.

+ Experience managing renovation and modernization projects in occupied or operational facilities preferred.

+ Demonstrated ability to maintain strong communication with project stakeholders, including owners, design teams, and internal project teams.

+ Proven ability to lead as a hands-on superintendent who is present in the field and actively involved in daily operations.

+ Comfort working with construction management software and digital tools for scheduling, reporting, and documentation.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. You will work primarily on active federal renovation projects, often within secure or controlled facilities that require adherence to installation and site access requirements.
