Job Description
This is a part-time position teaching lecture and laboratory sections for multiple classes during the academic year at Virginia Wesleyan University (soon to be Batten University). The courses include:
- BIO 100 Introductory Biology for nonmajors
- BIO 201 Microbiology for Health Sciences
- BIO 221 Human Anatomy and Physiology I
- BIO 222 Human Anatomy and Physiology II
The adjunct instructor will teach in person during the day or early evening. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. and demonstrated experience in teaching college-level biology, although candidates with a M.S. or 18 graduate semester hours in Biology will be considered. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare syllabi that meet the VWU syllabus guidelines and provide these to students on the first day of class. Syllabi should also be provided to department chairs.
- Be on time and prepared for class sessions and grade, provide feedback, and return assignments within a reasonable time period.
- Communicate with students via office hours and email.
- Submit mid-term reports, final grades, and C- reports per guidelines provided by the University Registrar.
- Comply with FERPA regulations.
- Coordinate with Campus support services as needed to support students.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biology or M.S. with 18 graduate hours in Biology
- Teaching experience is preferred
- Willingness to learn and use Blackboard, the University Learning Management System.
- Strong communication skills.
