Responsibilities

This role involves instructional support to assist teachers in daily classroom management and instruction, including clerical tasks, observing and reporting student behavior, and providing support in pre‑kindergarten, kindergarten, special classroom, or computer learning center/lab settings. The employee helps relieve teachers of routine activities and ensures effective classroom operations.

  • Follow instructional schedule developed by personnel working with assistant.
  • Reinforce skills taught by the classroom teacher to small and large groups.
  • Assist with instructional activities, such as reading to groups of students, providing library assistance, recording information for younger students, and listening to students.
  • Help students with special assignments or academic problems.
  • Work with groups of assigned students.
  • Encourage safety, work, and study habits.
  • Assist with daily routine tasks such as cafeteria duty, bus duty, money collection, hall duty, and checking students' work.
  • Prepare instructional materials as requested.
  • Assist in fire drill and other building security procedures as requested.
  • Perform designated learning tasks with students, reviewing lessons, topics, and exercises; demonstrate or explain lessons, ask questions and prompt students for answers; use supplementary learning materials and aids.
  • Monitor activities in drawing, writing, independent study, and other classroom activities.
  • Escort students on field trips and at school; assist students in physical and playground activities; accompany children to restrooms and assist with toilets if necessary.
  • Maintain bulletin boards, student records for daily attendance, lunch tickets, health charts, and classroom supplies.
  • May work with students requiring individual or close attention.
  • Perform related work as required.
Qualifications

The candidate must possess general knowledge of classroom teaching practices, maintain confidential records, handle classroom equipment, and work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and associates.

  • High School Diploma or GED (minimum).
  • Title I Assistants Only:
    Minimum 48 college credits or equivalent documentation, or an Associate's Degree; some experience working with children.
  • Physical ability to use sensory skills for communication, frequent sitting, walking, bending, and handling tasks; able to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds rarely.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
Benefits and Compensation

Hourly rate $19.28 - $28.12, with compensation based on job‑related creditable years of full‑time experience.
