General Responsibilities
Under the direction of the school principal and the Department of Teaching and
Learning (DTAL), the VALLSS Intervention Support Staff member is responsible for
planning and delivering evidence‑based literacy instruction for students in the
small group reading intervention setting utilizing approved resources. VALLSS
Intervention Support staff members provide a positive learning environment
conducive to the intellectual and social development of students, ensuring
students strengthen foundational literacy skills to support future academic
and career success. VALLSS Intervention Support staff monitor and evaluate
student outcomes; communicate and interact with students, staff, and parents;
develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs
of all students; maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures
and practices. VALLSS Intervention Support staff must monitor appropriate use
and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. Approximately 29 hours
per week.

Knowledge,Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of VBCPS curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum,
VBCPS policies and effective instructional practices; thorough understanding
of the teaching and learning process; ability to provide instruction that
reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education; ability to infuse
technology into curriculum; ability to work effectively with administrators,
colleagues, central office, school based staff, students, parents and community;
excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Attend mandatory professional learning outlined by the Department of Teaching and Learning.
- Take all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, VBCPS policy and administrative regulation; including, but not limited to, daily attendance records and materials inventory.
- Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
A bachelor's degree or high school diploma is required.
