Position: Outreach Advisor (on site)

Outreach Advisor (On Site)

Provide high quality, student-centered academic and career advising that supports recruitment, retention, and student success by leveraging strong counseling techniques, effective communication, data-informed decision-making, and collaborative partnerships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and external educational institutions.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Aid students in achieving educational and career goals through the use of the full range of institutional and community resources.
  • Planned activities are executed to recruit new students and promote Tidewater Community College to external constituencies with particular focus on area high schools.

Special Assignments
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to provide higher education-related academic and career counseling. Working knowledge of academic requirements for high school and community colleges, career opportunities, and qualifications and knowledge of counseling theories and techniques. Ability to develop positive working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, the general public, and educational institutions. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with student admission strategies and initiatives. Knowledge of and belief in the mission of a comprehensive community college, particularly as it relates to advising and student support services.

Demonstrated understanding of student assessment, education and career planning, registration and retention principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to develop, collect, interpret, analyze, and manage data. Ability to work in a customer relation management system (CRM) in which all activity is expected to be logged and tracked. Demonstrated ability to create and present information to various and diverse audiences. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to deliver high level customer service and maintain positive attitude in a high-volume service environment. Demonstrated ability to promote collaboration and teamwork in a student centered environment. Skilled in the use of personal computers to input data and interpret findings from student records. Knowledge of relevant software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience working with a variety of people in an advisory or counseling capacity.

Experience working in an advisory or counseling capacity in higher education/high school. Experience working in a high-volume customer service environment.
