Description
Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to join our growing Exceptional Saints Program for the 2026–2027 school year. The Exceptional Saints Program is designed to provide individualized support that empowers students with diverse learning needs to flourish within our inclusive Catholic school community. The Special Education Teacher will play a vital role in partnering with classroom teachers, families, administrators, and student support personnel to ensure each student receives the accommodations, interventions, and encouragement needed to achieve academic success while growing in confidence, independence, and faith.
The ideal candidate is passionate about inclusive education and believes that every student is capable of growth. This individual is collaborative, creative, and skilled at building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. The teacher will provide specialized instruction, and accommodation strategies, monitor student development and implement progress, coach classroom teachers on instructional supports, and collaborate in creating learning environments where all students are welcomed, challenged, and celebrated.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing direct academic intervention and specialized instruction for students with diverse learning needs.
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to implement accommodations, modifications, and differentiated instructional strategies.
- Developing, monitoring, and revising individualized learning and student support plans.
- Utilizing data to monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
- Supporting the development of executive functioning, organizational, social, and self-advocacy skills.
- Partnering with families through consistent communication and collaborative goal setting.
- Working closely with school leadership, counselors, and outside specialists to support the whole child.
- Promoting an inclusive school culture that reflects the dignity of every student as a beloved child of God.
Physical Demands/Environment:
The teacher is expected to supervise students and the safe environment of the school, and may involve work in classrooms, the computer lab, the library, and other parts of our campus.
Working Conditions:
This is a full-time, 10 month position. Travel time is sometimes required for diocesan meetings, field trips, and other assigned responsibilities. A classroom, necessary books, and supplies are provided by the school.
Requirements
Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Must be licensed and/or certified to teach your area of responsibility by the state of Virginia
- Each teacher is responsible for maintaining and updating his/her own certification
