Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our highly collaborative and motivated staff in our Virginia Beach, Virginia office’s Building Engineering practice. The Structural Engineer will perform the following duties but not limited to:
Responsibilities- Lead the preparation of deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates related to structural systems for commercial and governmental facilities
- Deliver complete, accurate and coordinated project design assignments within time and budget parameters while satisfying client contractual obligations
- Perform field investigation for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents
- Perform construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI responses, construction inspections, and responding to client requests
- Work within a project team environment
- Maintain and organize all project related documentation
- Coordinate work with other project disciplines
- Plan and organize work that follows a defined process
- Work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation as well as company, client, and industry standard practices
- Assist department in developing standards and maintaining current code and practice knowledge
- Perform quality assurance/quality control checking of structural design documents developed by fellow engineers
- Lead a group of engineers and BIM technicians focused on structural and multi-discipline projects
- Mentor less experienced structural engineers and support career growth
- Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team
- Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
- Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others
- Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
- Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects
- Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package
- Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings
- Prepares technical specification sections
- Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS in civil engineering + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Revit experience.
- Antiterrorism/Force Protection and Blast Resistant structural design experience.
- U.S. Citizenship required, due to the nature of the work.
Preferred Requirements
- 8+ years of experience with an engineering firm designing structural systems for commercial and institutional facilities.
- The ability to work with, interpret, and apply national and local building codes.
- Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing.
- Strong written communication, presentation, and client interface skills.
- Ability to take responsibility for given tasks with limited supervision while proactively developing standard practices and new techniques.
- Master of Science degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis.
- Relocation assistance may be available.
