Overview
This position will be part of the Technical Services and Asset Management Bureau within Public Works Operations Division.
ResponsibilitiesTypical duties of this position will be to supervise engineering technical support staff; provide training to staff on GIS related engineering support and GIS duties; provide QA/QC support to staff during work production, GIS SDE version management, and to regulate and manage GIS workflows of supervised employees. Works closely with engineers to provide project support; coordinates details for Public Works’ asset records in GIS with records maintained by Public Works’ Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
provides inventory of Public Works’ assets including contributions by developers; researches legal documents and records pertaining to land ownership, right-of-way, easement, and utility location; designs, prepares and maintains special project maps, charts and graphic presentations; handles inquiries from other City agencies and consultants; provides training on office procedures, and related GIS software and hardware; assists in providing data in support of various permit and audit requirements;
and may assume role of lead worker on designated projects.
This individual will perform a variety of GIS tasks with direct oversight from the Technology Services Manager or higher-level position. Representative work duties (depending on qualifications) include but are not limited to:
- Direct supervision and oversight of staff assigned.
- Providing GIS data, maps, graphs and asset counts to various City agencies and consultants in support of projects, permits, and audits.
- Manage Public Works GIS data including file geodatabases. SDE version management, feature classes, shape files, domain edits, reconcile/post, and coordinate with Center for GIS regarding online apps, rest service processes and nightly sync to CMMS (Cartegraph)
- Overseeing projects assigned to staff members, providing training, guidance and QA/QC of efforts. Examples of projects include: editing or creating assets; map creation through ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro; and Engineering Project Support
- Coordination with inspectors and surveyors as needed for infrastructure data updates
- Integration of GIS data with exports from CMMS (Open Gov Asset Management) and other databases
- Coordinate using a variety of communication methods with other city departments and outside agencies to ensure Public Works infrastructure geospatial data consistency and accuracy including providing selection sets, file geodatabases, web apps, review and QC of deliverables, receipt of notifications of CIP and developer project status.
