Overview
Water Resources Project Engineer I with 4–10 years of experience is sought to join our Water Resources team in Virginia Beach, VA
. This role is ideal for an engineer who is technically strong in stormwater, drainage, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling
, and who is ready to grow into a project and people leadership role within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
You’ll work on complex water resources projects, support transportation and municipal clients, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the growth of the Water Resources discipline.

What You’ll Be Doing- Water Resources Design & Analysis – Perform drainage and stormwater management design in accordance with client and regulatory requirements
- Watershed studies & modeling – Conduct watershed studies and complex hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
- Erosion & sediment control – Develop erosion and sediment control designs
- Data support – Analyze survey data, maps, drawings, and aerial photography to support project planning and design
- Assist in preparing Scopes of Work, Fees, Plans, Reports, Specifications, and Cost Estimates
- Coordinate with contractors, government agencies, consultants, and internal teams
- Support construction phase services as requested by clients or contractors
- Work in a collaborative, multi-discipline engineering environment
- Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers
- Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality and schedule
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with emphasis in Water Resources from an ABET-accredited program
- 4–10 years of experience in Water Resources Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia
, or ability to obtain within 6 months - Hydrologic modeling experience using TR-55 / TR-20 and Rational Methodologies
- Hydraulic modeling experience using HEC-RAS, HY-8, HydroCAD
, or similar software - Experience with drainage and stormwater management design
- Experience with erosion and sediment control design
- Experience working with local and state-level clients
- Proficiency with Micro Station Open Roads Designer
- Experience with PCSWMM
- Strong knowledge of Virginia stormwater regulations
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools
- Virginia DEQ Certified Stormwater Management Combined Administrator
- Familiarity with VDOT and Locally Administered Project (LAP) requirements
- Experience with GIS
- Office-based work approximately 60% of the time
- Occasional field work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed
