Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Operations and Maintenance is currently looking for an Engineer II/III to join our team. If you're interested in being part of a dynamic and dedicated team, come join our team!
The selected candidate will perform a variety of complex engineering duties, including:
- Performs a variety of engineering duties of a complex nature, which may include any combination of program and project management, infrastructure maintenance and repair assessment, development and review of plans and specifications, project coordination, and management support for operation and maintenance of public facilities.
- Manage a section of an operations and maintenance bureau which includes project/program management, personnel management & development and budget planning.
- Provide comprehensive engineering and project/program management support in a variety of engineering disciplines, developing storm water maintenance projects, including cost estimates and related project/program management initiatives.
- Manage professional design services and construction services contracts.
- Maintain program and project records and prepare various reports on schedules and budgets.
- Provide professional responses to citizen inquiries.

- Minimum Requirements:
Engineer III Minimums:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two (2) years of progressive professional experience.
Engineer III Minimums:
Requires a Bachelors Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved engineering or engineering technology program with possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) and five (5) years of progressive professional experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
• Experience in stormwater drainage design and construction.
• Experience with field work and activities related to pump stations, flood control structures, or similar facilities.
• Experience utilizing technology or software to track tasks and assets, or system monitoring (SCADA)
• Municipal government engineering project and program management experience.
• Municipal contract and work order experience.
• Knowledge of environmental permitting requirements for construction in a coastal plain area.
• Virginia Department of Environmental Quality certifications:
Erosion and Sediment Control and Storm Water Management
