Description
This position is contingent upon contract award.
The Electrical Systems Subject Matter Expert (ELECTRICAL SME) provides expert technical leadership, operational oversight, and maintenance support for shipboard electrical generation, distribution, and control systems aboard Navy warships and military auxiliary vessels. This position serves as a senior subject matter expert responsible for supporting fleet readiness, electrical system reliability, maintenance execution, troubleshooting, and compliance with Navy engineering and electrical safety standards.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and support technical efforts involving shipboard electrical systems operations, maintenance activities, troubleshooting, and engineering assessments.
- Provide subject matter expertise for shipboard power generation, electrical distribution systems, control systems, and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Support planning, execution, and oversight of organizational‑level and depot‑level maintenance activities involving shipboard electrical systems.
- Perform and oversee electrical troubleshooting, casualty response, fault isolation, and corrective maintenance activities using established Navy procedures and practices.
- Provide technical expertise involving:
- Ungrounded 450‑volt, 3‑phase alternating current (AC) electrical equipment and distribution systems
- Ungrounded 4160‑volt, 3‑phase AC equipment and distribution systems
- Ensure compliance with current Navy electrical safety requirements, engineering standards, maintenance procedures, and technical directives.
- Review maintenance documentation, electrical safety procedures, tag‑out requirements, and technical work packages for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with ship’s force personnel, maintenance activities, government representatives, and technical stakeholders to resolve electrical system issues and maintenance concerns.
- Analyze electrical system performance, maintenance data, casualty reports, and operational trends to identify improvement opportunities and enhance mission readiness.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to electrical maintenance personnel and engineering teams.
- Prepare technical reports, readiness assessments, maintenance evaluations, and electrical system status updates for leadership review.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of twenty (20) years of experience with the operations and maintenance of electrical systems aboard warships or military auxiliary vessels.
- Thorough knowledge of:
- Ungrounded 450‑volt, 3‑phase alternating current (AC) equipment and distribution systems
- Ungrounded 4160‑volt, 3‑phase AC equipment and distribution systems
- Direct operational and maintenance experience, within the last five (5) years, involving electrical equipment and distribution systems currently utilized by the U.S. Navy.
- Demonstrated direct experience using standard formal electrical troubleshooting procedures and practices.
- Comprehensive understanding of current Navy electrical safety procedures, material requirements, and engineering guidance.
- Extensive knowledge of Navy electrical maintenance practices, casualty response procedures, operational readiness requirements, and safety standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and technical problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to effectively interface with senior military leadership, civilian personnel, maintenance organizations, and technical stakeholders.
- Prior experience supporting fleet readiness assessments, maintenance evaluations, modernization programs, or lifecycle sustainment initiatives.
- Experience supporting shipyard maintenance, waterfront engineering operations, or electrical modernization efforts.
- Familiarity with Navy maintenance databases, electrical system documentation, engineering technical manuals, and readiness reporting systems.
- Experience supporting integrated engineering or maintenance support teams.
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Equivalent Navy technical training, qualifications, certifications, and operational experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Work may be performed in office environments, shipboard locations, waterfront operations areas, maintenance facilities, or shipyards.
- Position may require travel to fleet concentration areas, operational commands, maintenance facilities, and shipboard locations in support of inspections, maintenance activities, and operational readiness efforts.
- Active DoD security clearance (Secret or higher) required.
