Position: Steam Generating Propulsion Inspector Lead (SGPI Lead)

Description

This position is contingent upon contract award. The Steam Generating Propulsion Inspector Lead (SGPI Lead) is responsible for providing senior‑level engineering leadership, operational oversight, inspection expertise, and maintenance support for Navy steam and diesel propulsion systems aboard surface warships and military auxiliary vessels. This position serves as the principal technical authority for propulsion plant operations, engineering assessments, inspection programs, maintenance execution, and technical project implementation in support of fleet readiness and mission effectiveness.

The SGPI Lead supervises multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance teams, provides expert guidance on propulsion system operations and lifecycle maintenance, and ensures compliance with Navy engineering standards, operational procedures, and maintenance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise technical personnel supporting propulsion plant operations, engineering analyses, maintenance activities, inspections, and implementation of technical projects.
  • Provide senior‑level technical management support across multiple Navy surface ships and military auxiliary vessels.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for steam turbine propulsion systems, steam turbine generators, diesel propulsion systems, diesel generators, control systems, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Support planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of propulsion plant maintenance and readiness initiatives.
  • Conduct and oversee propulsion system inspections in accordance with Navy engineering procedures, maintenance standards, and certification requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering watch standers, inspectors, maintenance personnel, and shipboard engineering teams.
  • Analyze engineering system performance, maintenance data, and operational trends to improve system reliability, operational readiness, and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with government representatives, ship’s force personnel, maintenance organizations, and program stakeholders to resolve technical and operational issues.
  • Assist in development and implementation of engineering procedures, maintenance strategies, inspection programs, and operational best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Navy safety, engineering, operational, and maintenance requirements.
  • Prepare inspection reports, technical assessments, readiness evaluations, and program status updates for leadership review.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 20 years of supervisory experience in engineering analyses, information system operations, and the implementation of technical projects similar.
  • Extensive Navy technical management experience supporting multiple ships.
  • Extensive operational experience serving as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) aboard multiple steam‑powered ships.
  • Extensive experience, including multiple tours, serving as a Navy Steam Generating Propulsion Inspector supporting Navy surface ship maintenance processes.
  • Minimum of 20 years of supervisory‑level watch standing experience aboard warships or military auxiliary vessels serving as Engineering Officer of the Watch, Propulsion Plant Watch Officer, Chief Engineer, or equivalent engineering leadership positions responsible for overall propulsion plant operations and associated control and auxiliary systems.
  • Extensive experience conducting steam propulsion inspections aboard surface warships or military auxiliary vessels.
  • Qualifications and certifications equivalent to a U.S. Navy Steam Generating Propulsion Inspector.
  • Direct operational and maintenance experience within the last five (5) years involving steam turbine main propulsion systems, steam turbine generators, associated control systems, and auxiliary systems currently utilized by the U.S. Navy.
  • Strong leadership, communication, technical analysis, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with senior military leadership, civilian personnel, maintenance organizations, and technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting Navy fleet readiness, modernization, or lifecycle maintenance programs.
