Owen Daniels is proud to partner with a provider of advanced maritime technology, with specific expertise in autonomous/uncrewed surface vessels for defense and commercial applications. They are an established global business, expanding operations to Virginia Beach.

As part of this expansion, they are looking for an Experienced Field Engineer with expertise in the Autonomy stack/GNC – guidance, navigation and control

The role sits within the Mission Success team, bridging field operations and engineering. You will undertake rigorous pre‑mission checks to ensure vessels perform to customer requirements, and lead diagnostics across autonomy, control and sensors – capturing data to drive operational reliability and continuous performance improvement.

• Act as the technical authority for autonomy and control within the Mission Success team.
• Prepare and configure autonomy, navigation and control software, operating modes and failsafe behaviors.
• Translate customer objectives into mission configurations and provide real‑time technical support to operators during missions.
• Monitor telemetry and logs to detect and diagnose issues that span software and hardware.
• Implement workarounds or reconfiguration to restore correct behavior and prevent failures.
• Verify and maintain the performance of key sensors, ensuring they are correctly configured, calibrated and integrated.
• Configure and optimize operator control stations and workflows, capturing user feedback to improve situational awareness and usability.
• Plan and support structured trials and demonstrations, including defining configurations, data capture requirements and safety measures.

• Experience working with maritime guidance, navigation and control systems.
• Experience diagnosing software or control system issues.
• Ability to work in maritime and field‑based environments.

• Virginia Beach based – some travel required.
